At a recent art fair in Hell’s Kitchen, Natural Pursuits hosted a simple, spontaneous pop-up project at our table. With our camera set up and recording, we invited visitors to participate in what we’re calling unzip clips. The premise was direct: participants lowered their pants briefly on camera, creating a short, anonymous video.

Over the course of the day, sixteen people chose to take part. Each clip is straightforward and unembellished, capturing a single action without commentary. What emerged is a collection of concise, candid moments answering the perennial question: what’s in your pants.

About the Day

The art fair was put on by Dandyland, a recurring art fair series that hosts themed markets in New York City and around the country. Each event has a theme and this edition was the Pink Party, which is why many of the participants you’ll see are wearing pink.

The fair was held on February 7, notably the coldest day of the year in New York City. Several participants specifically asked that this context be included in case there was shrinkage at play.

The Natural Pursuits table was set up in the basement of the venue. A small half-wall provided a measure of privacy for those who wanted it. Others were less concerned with discretion, participating with an openly exhibitionist streak.

On Curiosity and What These Clips Reveal

There is a persistent, almost universal curiosity about what other people look like naked. Part of it may be simple comparison. Part of it may be that we literally call them our privates, signaling that these parts of the body are not typically on display. Even when the intent is wholesome, the act of looking feels taboo.

These short videos are designed to [partially] satisfy that curiosity. In a matter of seconds, you begin to see how much variation exists. Differences in length and girth. Circumcised and uncircumcised penises. Larger and smaller testicles. Thick pubic hair, trimmed hair, shaved skin. Briefs, boxers, jockstraps, thongs, or nothing at all. A few cock cages were uncovered.

As with everything we try to do at Natural Pursuits, the goal is not to rank or sensationalize. There is no hierarchy here. These clips simply document what people’s bodies look like and what they choose to wear. Side by side, the cumulative effect is clarity: variation is normal. Just bodies, presented as they are.
