Since the release of Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020, we’ve heard a lot more about penises in video games. This discourse continued with the release of Baldur’s Gate 3, both games giving players the ability to customize their avatars schlong. Since Natural Pursuits has written plenty about dicks in other media, so today, we’re turning our attention to video games.
Part of the fun of playing video games has always been the control. Players get the chance to control the game’s world, how they interact with it, and even their avatar’s digital body. Players now customize everythingโfrom musculature and weight to penis size to who their avatars have sex with. All of this reflects our complex relationships with identity and appearance. Whether intentional or not.
These digital dicks sparked discussions about body representation, control, and the freedom to express (or expose) ourselves when we play video games. Are these games tools for body positivity and self-exploration, or simply another way we fixate on appearance?
Of course, the answer is “all of the above,” but today, we’re exploring how games shape (and reshape) our perceptions of bodiesโour own and the ones we create.
From Power Fantasy to Body Representation

Video games have traditionally provided outlets for power fantasiesโwhether wielding swords, magic, or futuristic technology. Character creation tools allow players to decide what physical attributes and skills make them the most powerful. Players have even been given control over their avatars’ most personal attributes in some games.
When Cyberpunk 2077 (released in December 2020 by CD PROJEKT RED) let players choose penis size as part of character customization, it stirred conversation beyond the gaming community. Most people don’t see many flaccid penises, so having the chance to literally play with one was fun, novel, and taboo. Of course, toxic gamers thought it was “too gay.” For others, it touched on deeper body image and self-representation issues.
The video above demonstrates that the range of penis size in the game was pretty representative of real-life average.
Nudity and Fantasy in Baldur’s Gate 3

Similarly, Baldur’s Gate 3 (released in August 2023 by Larian Studios), made headlines for its nudity. The game offers five penis options, from Penis A to Penis E, each making subtle changes to your character’s package.
Dick customization introduced a new layer to how gamesโand bodiesโare critiqued. As Marco Cocomello explains, “Players seem to believe that the game’s physical assets might be lacking here and there… Namely, the penis sizes.”
Players began debating whether the options for dick size were realistic in general but also for the species within the game. Who should have the biggest piece: orcs or elves?
The responses were predictable. The species perceived as the most masculine and physically imposing should, of course, have the biggest penises. The message? Masculinity and power are tied to dick size.
Modding the Fantasy: Bigger, Better, or More Realistic?

Modders stepped in because many players were unhappy with their Baldur’s Gate 3 options. One mod, Better Penis, even asks, “Bored of the Tiny Penis the game gives you?” While this mod claims to offer “realistic sizes,” both the “Average” and “Well Hung” sizes are still much larger than the real-world average. As demonstrated by the photos above, the games unmodded penis options definitely do not correlate to real-world “tiny”.
The conclusion isn’t subtle. Bigger is better.
In addition to overall size, the game’s “one-size-fits-all-species” penis model led to a wave of mods designed to change the size of the in-game genitalia. A quick search on Nexus Mods shows how people use these modifications to match their expectations and fantasies, not only for penises but for all sorts of body parts.
Mod names like “BFPP- Bigger Floppy Physics Penises for Humans – Elves -Half dragon Body type 1-2-4“, “Slutty Waist for Masc Bodies,” and “Manly Asses” give a glimpse into the variety of changes players are making to in-game bodies.
What Do These Modifications Say About Us?

Looking at how people choose to mod the game reveals our different societal attitudes about the representation of penises. Mods like Better Penises inflate the size of average. Others decide not to mod their game for more realism.
These two approaches show how different players mod games in different ways. Players either choose to reinforce their deals about dick size or decide to create more accurate representations. In short, people are modding the game to reflect their beliefs and desires.
Digital Bodies, Real Conversations
Whether players lean toward exaggerated or realistic avatars, their choices reflect deeper beliefs about how bodies should look. For some, this means matching their idea of what a fantasy creature should look like or reinforcing the belief that tough guys have big dicks. For others, it might be about spending time with a character they find sexually appealing.
Playing as an orc with a giant dick can be a lot of fun. These games allow players to push boundaries, engage with fantasy, and escape everyday life. The challenge, as always, is to balance these experiences with a healthy understanding of what’s real and what’s just play.
None of this is inherently bad unless it starts making players feel bad about their own bodies. If customizing avatars leads to negative feelings about one’s genitalia or general self-worth, then it can become an issue. Games should be a space for fun and exploration, not a source of insecurity.
