For over two years, we have hosted in-person events to create articles for Natural Pursuits Online. In that time, we’ve welcomed back a diverse community of regular attendees who share our passion for inclusivity, body neutrality, and radical acceptance. These people are the heart and soul of our events, bringing their unique perspectives and stories to each gathering.
Today, we’re excited to introduce you to Dio, one of our regular attendees. Dio has been an active member of the local nudist scene for some time and has joined us for numerous Natural Pursuits events.
We wanted you to know Dio better. In this interview he shares his experiences, thoughts on nudism, and advice to newcomers looking to explore the world of clothing-optional events.
We hope you enjoy this opportunity to get to know Dio. Accompanying the interview of portaits of Dio taken at various Natural Pursuits events.

ATTENDEE INTERVIEW
Natural Pursuits (NP): You’re very involved in the local nudist scene. How did you first become interested in nudism, and what motivated you to attend nudist events like Natural Pursuits?
Dio: I became “involved” because of my family. Some of my earliest memories was going to the hot springs with my family in Jamaica. I found Natural Pursuits, when I proactively began searching for Naturist events in New York.
NP: What do you enjoy most about participating in nudist events, and how has your experience evolved over time?
Dio: What I enjoy the most about nudist events is the freedom. Over the years, it’s helped me with anxiety and also find and form genuine friendships.
NP: You’ve mentioned before that some people view nudist events as primarily focused on sex. Can you share more about your perspective on this and why it’s important to differentiate between nudism and sexual activities?
Dio: I certainly have no problems with nude “sex” events/scenes. I think, however, it’s important to provide information on what the event will entail. There should be rules and consequences about breaking rules. Set a precedence of etiquette surrounding your particular event, there should be no confusion in the messaging.
It’s important we want to create an environment where one is not judged for their looks, especially based on sexual attraction. It’s important to build self-confidence and realistic perceptions on what “a body” looks like.
Whether the body is aging or handicapped or various complexions, with all its perfect imperfections. Sexual activities tends to lean to the “narrow” views of one’s tastes and this is where criticism comes into play.

ATTENDEE INTERVIEW (Cont.)
NP: Have you encountered any misconceptions or stereotypes about nudism in your interactions with others? How do you address these misconceptions?
Dio: Yes, misconceptions and stereotypes occur very often. I try to be proactive with addressing concerns from “Newdists”. I always veer towards my stories of being with my Grandfather, and in this way nudism becomes nonsexual and a story of a lost tradition. It’s a lost tradition in which families took care of their elders and it’s honourable and cultural and non-shaming.
Secondly, I am also an advocate for transitional events like events in consent, underwear parties etc. We can’t expect people to completely understand it right away but activity creates a healthy distraction.
NP: What advice would you give to newcomers interested in attending nudist events for the first time, especially if they want to experience nudism without the sexual connotations?
Dio: For newcomers or Newdists that are interested in a nonsexual event, I think sending questions to the organisers is a good thing, to make sure the event is as expected. Also, do a bit of research on Naturism and the body positivity movement.
NP: What are some of your most memorable experiences or moments from Natural Pursuits events?
DP: Personally, I have something to love about all their events. They speak to my creative side all while doing it au naturale. And the best thing I have received from Natural Pursuits, is the sense of community that is being formed. Now many of us are getting together in the buff, outside of the events.
I’m truly happy and grateful that I have come across Natural Pursuits.
