Photography by Victor G. Jeffreys II
On February 20, 2022, Natural Pursuits held a shoot in Brooklyn, NY in Natural Pursuit’s founder, Phillip Miner’s, apartment. Photographer, Victor G. Jeffreys II was on hand to make art with the other participants.
Artist Interview
Natural Pursuits (NP): What is our relationship to casual nudity?
Victor Jeffreys II (VJ): I AM FAIRLY CASUAL ABOUT IT. 🙂
NP: You’ve followed the Natural Pursuits project for years. How did the experience match your expectations?
VJ: IT WAS WHAT I EXPECTED. THE PUBLICATION DOES AN EXCELLENT JOB OF MAKING ITS READERS FEEL LIKE THEY ARE INSIDE THE EXPERIENCES BEING SHARED. I WALKED INTO MY FIRST NP EVENT AND IT FELT LIKE I HAD BEEN THERE BEFORE.
NP: Tell me about your choice to shoot participants from the nose up and also torsoless?
VJ: THERE IS A TROPE ABOUT DISEMBODIED BODIES/HEADLESS TORSOS ON THE APPS–I WANTED TO PLAY IN THAT SPACE. SHOWING OURSELVES WITHOUT SHOWING OURSELVES. SHARING IT ALL WITHOUT SHARING ANYTHING.
NP: Your bio on your website details your varied career path. How do you decide what’s next?
VJ: BURN SAGE, TAKE A DEEP BREATH, AND KEEP MY HEART AND MIND OPEN.
NP: Anything else you want to mention or promote?
VJ: I AM CURRENTLY WORKING ON AN OPERA WITH MY DEAR FRIEND MUR. WE ARE SHOWING AT WILD PROJECTS (NYC) MARCH 10-12–AND EVERYONE SHOULD BE THERE!
About the Artist
Victor G. Jeffreys II lives in New York City and paints and draws obsessively. He did some back of the envelope math recently and realized he’s taken more than two million photos since 2004. He’s shot countless hours of film. He’s edited a decent fraction of those hours. He collages, makes sculptural objects — some that are functional, some that are not — and hosts listening/dinner/political-fundraising/birthday/Easter parties, among other types of events.
