Standard question that we always start with: What’s your relationship to casual nudity?
Boy RadioNudity has always been something I’ve enjoyed without feeling much shame or embarrassment about it. Having friends who practice casual nudity has always made it a fun part of developing relationships.

There’s a playfulness to these images. How did you choose the subjects?
Boy RadioFor this series, my intention is to photograph icons I happen to be friends with.
The fact you all are friends comes through in the work. Most of the images are very unguarded. Was the creation of the images spontaneous or did you get together with the intention of creating work?
Boy RadioDefinitely reached out with intention to make art. I’ve known BoyFriendDick and Cody for a while. Boomer and I have had a few run ins, so I was excited when he said yes and trusted my pitches.
We’d love to hear more about the days these images were created.
Boy RadioI reached out to everyone individually with the intention of taking some pretty specific images. Because I had a really specific idea of the shots I wanted, once I confirmed, everything happened very quickly. I felt confident that everyone would bring their best when we met.
It was easy and stress free: set up and direct the shot, natural lighting, instant film.

You made this work last year. Tell us more about shooting during COVID-19.
Boy RadioBecause it was towards the end of Summer 2020 where people were still a little hesitant about distancing, masks and not getting sick, it was really important that I made everyone feel comfortable enough to give me their best.
A few images use double exposures and have the subjects interacting with each other. Tell me more about that choice.
Boy RadioThe double exposure is a feature on the camera that I don’t use a lot. My favorite image is the one of BoyFriendDick based on one of his memes “leaving toxic people behind” in which you see him lying on the ground with what looks like another version of him rising up from his body almost like an astral projection.
You’re known for your music. Could you let my readers know a little more about your history as a visual artist?
Boy RadioVisual art has always been an important aspect to my story telling. I think my visual identity might be more recognized than my music if I’m being honest, but I’ve always coupled any music release I’ve had with a strong and intentional visual.
